Residency
Curriculum
The curriculum of the Drayer Physical Therapy Institute ™ (DPTI ™) residency program is designed to provide physical therapists with advanced knowledge and skill training in an orthopedic physical therapy environment that fosters the growth of professionals by a team of educators committed to clinical excellence. This curriculum is designed to prepare therapists for the ABPTS of Orthopedic Certified Specialist Examination.
Program Outline
The residency program runs for 50 consecutive weeks. Each resident will provide patient care in a clinic 32-40 hours a week, of which 4-5 hours weekly are spent in 1:1 mentorship. Classroom and lab requirements are fulfilled one day a week. In addition residents will travel one time a month to a university setting to participate in research to include data collection, journal club, seminars and development of a case study. In addition residents will attend a series of continuing education seminars (schedule) offered at the DPTI™ conference center. The resident will receive a salary for the time he/she is employed as well as an employee benefits package including health and disability insurance.

- 1600 Hours of Clinical Practice
- 200 Hours of Mentoring
- 200 Hours of Clinical Lab Skills/Lecture
- 160 Hours of Continuing Education
- 96 Hours of Research
Goals of the Residency Program
- Goal I -
- Provide an environment which fosters the facilitation and acceleration of the therapist to attain the knowledge of advanced clinical skills in order to provide the highest level of care
- Goal II -
- Serve as educators, mentors, and resources for others in the physical therapy field
- Goal III -
- Become competent consumers and/ or contributors to scientific literature
- Goal IV -
- Assist in the cultural and scientific based development of young therapists for future leadership positions within DPTI
Residency Program Specifics
- No tuition cost
- Base salary 80% of new graduate salary
- One year commitment to DPTI upon successful completion if position available in region
- Increased time with mentor
